Today auto-ID devices start to migrating from parallel, serial and USB to TCPIP interface, it is important you need to know few jargon term when you talk to your customer. 

What is Router?

A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between two different computer networks.

Example:

  1. To connect between ALCKL with ALCSG, you need router.
  2. To connect between ALCKL to internet you need router.
  3. To do printing from Parksion HQ to Parkson JB branch, data will passing router.
  4. To do data collection from Tan Corp HQ from Tan Corp Penang office, data will passing router.

What is network switch?

A network switch (also called switching hub, bridging hub, officially MAC bridge) is a computer networking device that connects devices together on a same computer network.

Example:

  1. Connect between your Desktop with ALC server product folder.
  2. Connect between your desktop with my laptop.
  3. Connect evolis card printer zenius with your PC via TCPIP connection inside ALCKL office.
  4. Connect iclock 580 with your PC via TCPIP connection on your own table space.

Most of the router come with additional switch port but not all.
