Introduction
Thermal printers use heat to transfer ink directly onto label. This type of printer uses a heating element to melt the ink and then transfers it to the paper. There are two types of thermal printers: direct thermal and thermal transfer. Thermal transfer printers use a ribbon coated with wax or resin that melts when heated. When the wax or resin reaches its melting point, it adheres to the paper. As the coating heats up, it sublimes (turns back into gas) the ink and prints it onto the paper.
