Comparison of scanners on scanning OCR/1D/QR between Honeywell and Datalogic
05/Apr/2021

Observation:

"For the above-tested models, Datalogic scanners are snappy as well as Honeywell.
Especially for the OCR scanning.

However, configuration-wise, Honeywell is easier to configure.
The more advanced functions are not accessible at our end and require Datalogic to assist.

For Honeywell scanners:

Original FW of scanners:
Currently, it is an Either-Or situation when comes to OCR scanning of Passport or Cheque.
The settings cannot be set concurrently.
When OCR Passport is enabled, the OCR cheque will not work and vice-versa.

After applying trial FW (ver: EV000331DAC) from Honeywell-Shawn:
Both 1950GSR and1950GHD can do OCR Passport and Cheque MICR within 1 setting.
(Can OCR Passport or cheque upside down too)

For Datalogic scanners:

There is only 1 option for cheque scanning which is the Italian ITB Bank OCR and it doesn't work for scanning our (OCBC) cheque.

Conclusion:
  • Datalogic models are more snappy but configuration cannot perform OCR passport and cheque within the same setting.
  • Honeywell models can do both OCR passport and cheque within the same setting and have an easier-to-use configuration interface.
  • If OCR Passport and OCR Cheque MICR are required at the same setting, then the Honeywell 1950GHD-2USB-A and Honeywell 1950GSR-2USB-A are the better all-rounded scanners.
  • All rounded winner: Honeywell 1950GHD-2USB-A and Honeywell 1950GSR-2USB-A
