To have a close micro look into label for barcode printing technology, we can dissect the label to up to 7 layers or more layer of surface.

The 7 layer in sequence as below:

  1. Top Coating or Over laminates layer
  2. Face Stock Layer*
  3. Primer Layer
  4. Adhesive Layer*
  5. Release Costing Layer
  6. Release liner Layer*
  7. Anti-Block Coating.

Anyway, the important layer in barcode label industry basically is only 3 which are Face Stock Layer, Adhesive Layer and Release Liner Layer.

Face Stock layer

is the material layer of the label, it can be paper base material, film base material, and plastics base material, PVC base material and so on. I summaries the name into below categories

AC – ART CARD

AP – ART PAPER

CP – CENIC YUPO

MC- MIRRORKOTE

SP – SILVER POLYESTER

WP – WHITE POLYESTER

MSP – MATTE SILVER POLYESTER

MWP – MATTE WHITE POLYESTER

Adhesive Layer

is the glue, so to speak, that keeps the label stuck to its target object. In Barcode arena, we more enforce on Permanent type or Removable type adhesive layer. The measurement use to measure the holding force is N/mm (Newton/Meter).

Release Liner Layer

Is the layer that receives the release coating, the material can be glassine paper with high internal strength, super calenderer paper, plastic transparent material, poly-coated liner and etc.
